Here's What We Do! Welcome to Yesterday’s! This farmhouse, built in 1837, is the third oldest residence in St. Joseph County. In the late 1800s, the “Pioneers of the Grange”, a social, economic and political movement of farmers and the United States, used it as a meeting hall. Granger, Indiana is named after this organization. The building was last used as a residence by Mr. And Mrs. James Goff. Subsequently, it served as the Post Office for the local area, a gift and tea shop, and at present, the home of Yesterday’s. The floors and staircases throughout were crafted from Virgin Poplar – a wood nearly impossible to fine in today’s market. At the time of construction, the only source of insulation was dead air space. Thus, the builders laid down walls containing layers of brick separated by 8-12 inches of open airspace. This accounts for the extremely thick walls between the rooms. On the Historic Register, our home has undergone a process of refurbishing and remodeling with emphasis on preserving the structure’s historical features and architecture. While some areas contain modern amenities, you’ll still find such items as the original fireplace and the smokehouse out back, used for smoking and drying apples and corn, and for the making of apple butter. This building, it’s integrity throughout the years, and all of the atmosphere, tie in with our commitment to serve only the best, freshest items possible with a personal touch you’ll find nowhere else.
